TLSO

Our TLSO helps manage the growth of young children's spines. By applying our unique Surestep compression techniques, the TLSO promotes better upright posture while maintaining full-directional mobility. By applying this compression more evenly across the body, the Surestep can provide greater stability with less rigidity.

Indications:
  • Inability to control position in a wheelchair
  • Positive trunk imbalances
  • Flexible kyphosis or lordosis
Contraindications:
  • Fixed scoliotic curves
  • Idiopathic scoliosis in adolescence
  • Severe respiratory restrictions
Each Surestep TLSO can be modified to fit the child's specific medical needs. Modifications include:

Gills
Abdominal incision
Anterior and posterior openings
Anterior windows
G-tubes or back pumps
Several of these options help improve breathing. Let's examine them in more detail:

The Abdominal Incision is designed to allow abdominal (or diaphragmatic) breathing. A bellows over the opening maintains pressure while allowing dynamic movement.

Lateral Gills allow the lateral ribs to expand during inspiration.

Anterior Gills allow the chest to expand forward/upward during inspiration.

Together, these three modifications enable triplanar breathing and support any combination of different breathing patterns for each patient. The Surestep TLSO can incorporate any combination of different breathing modifications and still provide circumferential compression and support of the spine.
